What once started as birthday barbeque for it's founder Alex Tenchard in 2001, has now grown into a beast of a festival with big Headliners like Suede playing this year. Standon won the Innovation Award 2008 UK Festival Awards for putting on an underwater disco, no that wasn't due to flooding and rain, they actually built one. This year thrill seekers can 'Learn to Fly' with giant trapeze lessons. There are also plenty of family programmes.
They also promoted the festival by including a series of "Road to Standon Calling" gigs in London and a competition for up and coming bands to play the main stage on Sunday night. Last years capacity was up to 10,000 people. Journey time is 45 minutes from London, Cambridge, Chelmsford. Just over 1 hour from Guildford, Reading and Oxford.
